Although Joslyn and Carter first met in high school,  they didn’t start dating until a fateful phone call was made. Carter accidentally called Joslyn while he was in college, and they began dating in 2014! They fell in love within a month.

The Proposal

3.5 years into the relationship, Carter decided it was time to pop the big question. He enlisted the help of Joslyn’s family to get the proposal just right. Joslyn’s father promised a surprise for her mother and invited the family to their lake house. Once there, they were taking family photos when Carter appeared and proposed! The whole family was ecstatic.

The Wedding

Cool linens and an abundance of flowers filled the tent on the warm August evening. On top of that, with Palazzolos Gelato for dessert, the reception was elegant yet refreshing. At the center of it all was the couple’s unity symbol: the cord of three strands.

The Couple’s Advice

“The day is about you and the love of your life. Trust the ones you chose to make the day perfect and let them do their job. Just enjoy every minute of you and you significant others special day without worrying. The day goes fast, take in every moment.”

The Day & Design

True to the couple’s personality, the wedding was elegant and classy with a hint of whimsical, timelessly styled so its beauty would hold for years to come. The wedding also got an extra special touch thanks to the handiwork of Carly’s father. He made an arch for the ceremony, a frame for the escort display, and even a wooden sign and dowels for the donut display! The couple also made sure to pay tribute to the loved ones who had passed away by displaying their photos at reception.

The Couple’s Advice

“Remember to keep everything in perspective. While you want to have everything perfect, the day is really about the marriage that comes after your wedding day. Don’t let the details of planning ruin the reason you and your fiance chose to get married!”

And thank goodness she did! Upon meeting, they kept finding ways to walk together on campus, until they found themselves… in love.

The Proposal

Teresa woke up from a nap during a car ride to find Demitrius’ car in her parent’s driveway. The couple was doing long distance, so she was pleasantly surprised to find Demitrius in her parent’s kitchen. With champagne in one hand, and a bouquet of flowers in the other, he invited her on a walk. They began around a local nature preserve before settling upon a gazebo. Demitrius quickly set the scene with a box he “found.” Surrounded by candles and music, the couple sat in the gazebo as they drank champagne and talked. Songs played and passed until the song they had previously selected as their first dance song came on. Demitrius then got down one knee and proposed.

The Day & Design

Rather than dealing with small details, Teri wanted a simple wedding day to keep the focus on the people around them. For her, the whole day was about her favorite people coming together. To promote this idea, she and her bridesmaids stayed at a farm for 2 nights before the wedding in order to bond. Then, on the day of the wedding, the bridal party took a rented bus to a bar for an hour of drinks and celebration!

Rachel and Patrick met in May 2013 at a rodeo. Their love quickly blossomed, culminating in a magical proposal.

The Proposal

Rachel’s grandparents have a number of cottages on Lake Michigan and every year her family gathers from all over the country to spend a week together. Being one of her favorite places, Patrick knew this would be the ideal location and chose this special week to propose so that the entire family could take part in the celebration. The couple shares a mutual love for Lake Michigan so they took a walk to Rachel’s favorite spot on the beach. They climbed the sand dune leading to a lookout of an amazing panoramic view of the lake, and the Muskegon lighthouse. They sat there for a while soaking up the scenery and admiring the gorgeous view until Patrick explained that he had a headache and wanted to go back to the cottage. He stood up and when Rachel turned around he was on one knee holding the ring he had chosen for her. Rachel was completely shocked and elated so after sharing the moment together they hurried back to surprise the family with their engagement. Having all of Rachel’s family present made the day all the more special and “it could not have been more perfect.”

The Day & Design

Rachel and Patrick’s wedding featured many personal and unique touches. Rachel’s father passed away when she was 9 years old and she was concerned about having a hard time getting through the entire ceremony without him. The couple contemplated creative ways to make this difficult situation a little easier. After the initial pastor became unavailable an idea came to mind. Rachel’s father had three men that were his very best friends. She grew up around them her whole life and shared a close relationship with each of them. Rachel decided to ask her “Uncle” Gonzo to perform the ceremony. Side note, “Uncle” Gonzo is a firefighter and truck driver, not a pastor. Despite some initial nervousness and hesitation he graciously agreed to become ordained and officiated their ceremony. Uncle Gonzo, Rachel’s father’s other two best friends, her grandfather, and Patrick’s father crafted a wedding ceremony to be remembered. This very personal touch ensured that the day would go smoothly. Rachel and Patrick explained that “it was so special to have the people who are the most important in their lives” surround them on the best day of their lives. Rachel’s father’s presence was felt throughout the entire wedding day.

The Couple’s Advice

Take it all in! It is so easy to say and so hard to do. Enjoy the planning as much as possible, even during the stress, because it is all over so fast! At some point during your reception take a moment, just the two of you, and look at how everything has come together. You’ll be surprised at just how incredible your special day is. It goes by in an amazing, beautiful whirlwind. Enjoy every second of it!

While they were at the Upper Falls Stephen was about to propose but got too nervous because there were so many people around. So, he suggested they take a path that led to a scenic view of the falls downriver. The couple were taking selfies together when Stephen asked a stranger to take their picture. As he returned to Amanda to pose for the picture he knelt to one knee and asked her to marry him.

The Day & Design

The couple describes their wedding style as simple, modern, and casual. They loved the idea of an outdoor wedding and felt that early fall would be the perfect time of year. One unique detail of their special day was Amanda wearing sparkling Keds shoes for the entire wedding. They also wrote each other notes and asked their flowergirl to exchange them before the wedding.

The Couple’s Advice

“Take a few minutes to enjoy each other and the union you have created. As difficult as it is, don’t sweat the small stuff. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is the love you have for one another and the support you have from your family and friends. Also, if your budget allows, a photo booth is so much fun! The guests will love it and you’ll get a scrapbook full of photo strips after the wedding.”

The Day & Design

The couple describe their wedding style as classy with touches of gold and green. Nate’s father built the beautiful doors used during the ceremony, and Tammi’s aunt and uncle walked flowers down the aisle in memory of her oldest sister.

The Couple’s Advice

“Try not to stress out on the big day. Everything that seemed so important during the planning stages just fades away. Do your best to get things done as early as possible so you aren’t running around the week before. Finally, book your wedding at Railside! Their staff was incredible and the whole day was so worry free. We had an amazing time celebrating!”

Damenick first met Joseph at a 4th of July celebration on the beach in South Haven in 2008, but it wasn’t until 2014 that they reconnected. Damenick fell in love with Joe shortly after their paths had crossed again. They were sitting on the couch together reminiscing like they had been best friends that just hadn’t seen each other in a while. They laughed, shared stories, and caught up on the time they spent apart. Damenick’s love for Joe was cemented after the first time he met their daughter, Avery. Ever since that day, Joe has treated Damenick and Avery like queens.

The Proposal

On Damenick’s birthday, Joe took her to, Fricano’s, one of their favorite restaurants. Fricano’s is special to the couple because it’s a place where Joe’s grandmother and his late grandfather (and best friend) “Pa” used to frequent. After they finished dinner, Joe explained that he had “left his wallet” in the car. Damenick tried to tell him multiple times that she could pay for it but Joe wouldn’t budge because it was her birthday. When he returned he tapped Damenick on the shoulder. She turned around to find Joe in dress clothes and a tie kneeling with a ring in his hand. Of course, Damenick couldn’t wait to share the news with her family and friends, but they weren’t answering their phones. On the way home from the restaurant, Joe suggested that they stop at his grandmother’s house to share the big news. To Damenick’s surprise, Joe had planned an engagement party and all of their friends and family were waiting to celebrate.

The Day & Design

Simple and elegant. The couple incorporated a few rustic signs along with rustic centerpieces. The most unique detail was the size of their wedding party — 18 bridesmaids/groomsmen. They also reserved seats for loved ones they wished could have been there by placing a photo of the family member along with an object that represented them on the chair. The wedding was officiated by Joe’s best friend who was ordained just so he could lead their ceremony. Another close friend of the couple played an acoustic guitar and sang during the ceremony and the first dance.

The Couple’s Advice

“Take it all in and enjoy the day because it goes by so fast. During your first dance explain to one another how much the day meant to you. The first dance is the perfect time to get some special one on one time during the hustle and bustle of your celebration.”
